About us

Footsteps to Follow, Inc. was founded by a group of professionals working in a variety of disciplines who wanted to share their time and talents with young people despite their hectic schedules.

Footsteps to Follow is not a one-on-one mentoring organization. We seek to function as a speakers bureau for those wishing to share their career enthusiasm and knowledge with the next generation, in order to make them aware of the wide variety of career options.

Our Vision

We seek to be a visible positive influence in communities that are too often viewed as negative and disadvantaged.

We seek to open up the world of workplace possibilities to students who are not aware that those possibilities exist.

Who are we

image

  • We are successful professionals representing various fields.
  • Collectively we are the example for our youth.
  • We do not charge for our services.

Footsteps to Follow, Inc. (FTF) aims to bring professionals from an array of disciplines into classrooms, community organizations and churches, to share their journey from daydream to working reality, including the baby steps, missteps, leaps and falls along the way. We have developed a network of contacts in banking and finance, law, medicine, publishing, stage and screen production and other occupations who are willing to visit with young people and give them a glimpse of what their experience has been, answer questions, point them toward resources for further investigation, and perhaps most importantly, let them see possibilities they would not otherwise know existed .

What do you want to be when you grow up?
It is a question that children are asked routinely, and in today’s technology-intense, ever more specialized world, the options can seem endless. Yet for some young people, what should be an open road to a bright future leads instead to a dead end.

We all have to walk the walk. Sometimes we’re called on to blaze a trail. But in the beginning, we need FOOTSTEPS TO FOLLOW.

Quote:

“As former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders put it, “You can’t be what you don’t see.” Students need exposure, in their classrooms and communities, to professionals in a wide range of careers-men and women who are willing to spend some time and offer first-hand accounts of the steps that led to their success. Without real-life examples of people who started out, “just like them,” today’s students can find themselves unable to envision the variety of possible careers that suit their talents and interests, to imagine that they have real, attainable choices that may be different from the ones they see around them, or to stay focused and motivated through years of school while taking the concrete steps that will lead them to achieve their goals.
